Strong and Courageous?

"Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them."
Joshua 1:6

In the book of Joshua, God speaks to Joshua and says "be strong and courageous" three times in a series of four verses. I always thought of Joshua as the gung-ho, brave, Mel Gibson's version of "William Wallace",  minus the blue face paint, type leader.

However, recently I was pondering why God would tell him three times to be strong and courageous if Joshua was strong and courageous. One would probably say to a strong and courageous leader, " I see you got this one covered."  Right?
Someone would only say something over and over to someone because they needed to hear it. My guess was Joshua was scared and possibly doubted himself, and God knew this. That's why he repeated it three times!

Now, that is encouraging to me. I like when Bible characters are relatable to my weaknesses, because it gives me hope for all God can do through me too.

Recently, I launched my first Go Fund Me campaign.  I am raising money so I can print 36 copies of my first book for the students in my daughter's class.

Those who know me really well, know I hate asking for help, let alone financial help. However, there was no other way I was going to be able to pull this off alone. Every time I texted or emailed someone the link to donate, I could feel my stomache drop, like as if I was on a roller coaster ride with unending drops.

When my stomache caught up to the rest of me I had to stop and ask myself, what was that all about? Why was I having such a hard time with doing this? It was only then I realized, every time I invited someone to get behind this project I felt more and more responsible for the success of it. I didn't want to let anyone down.

"Be strong and courageous" is what I felt whispered to my heart.  When I realized Joshua was scared too, I gave myself permission to be scared also.  Despite my fear, I would continue to move forward in faith to complete what I believe God had led me to do.
